What is sulfur?

Sulfur is an element. It is a basic chemical substance found in nature consisting of 16 protons and, when balanced or neutral, 16 electrons. At room temperature, it is a yellow, brittle solid.

Sulfur is not absorbed in its elemental form. It enters the body by way of sulfur-containing amino acids (proteins) and as sulfates.
